INTRODUCTION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF TOURSM MANAGEMENT
The Department of Tourism Management aims to educate prospective managers who are specialized in tourism, possess a high level of foreign-language proficiency, and closely follow international innovations and trends in the tourism sector.
The department’s curriculum has been designed in line with the priority needs of the tourism industry and is continuously updated to reflect changes in the field. In addition to theoretical instruction, students are provided with practical field studies required by the profession. The department also emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of tourism by maintaining close links with other core disciplines.
As the Department of Tourism Management, we attach great importance to university–industry collaboration. In this context, we organize activities where leading managers and professionals from the sector share their experiences with our students. Furthermore, through field trips and technical visits, students are introduced to prominent tourism destinations and gain first-hand insight into the dynamics of the industry.
Our primary goal is to enable students to contribute to the development of sustainable tourism within a sustainable environment, while equipping them with the necessary knowledge and practical skills demanded by the sector. The department aims to raise individuals who uphold ethical values required by the tourism profession. In line with these objectives, the Department of Tourism Management strives to bring together distinguished academics, experts, and students in a productive educational environment.
The Department aims to become a recognized academic unit at the international level, renowned for its academic achievements and high-quality education, while contributing to the overall welfare, ethical standards, and development of society.
Through its academic curriculum, the Department of Tourism Management seeks to cultivate graduates who can improve the efficiency of organizations in all operational areas by developing planning, managerial, supervisory, and analytical skills. In addition to professional courses such as Front Office Operations, Food and Beverage Services, Housekeeping, Automation Systems, Travel Agency and Tour Operation Management, the program also includes courses in Economics, Law, Sociology, Management and Marketing, Accounting, and Finance.
Throughout their studies, in addition to compulsory English courses, students may choose German, Russian, or Arabic as an elective foreign language.
Graduates of the Department of Tourism Management are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree. Depending on their education and personal abilities, graduates may work in various managerial positions within both public and private sector institutions. They can find employment in hospitality, food and beverage, travel, and recreation businesses at middle and senior management levels, depending on their interests and specialization areas.
Given the program’s strong academic and professional orientation, graduates may also pursue academic careers in the field of tourism. Additionally, graduates have the opportunity to work in official institutions such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, provincial directorates of tourism, and tourism information offices, as well as in organizations, transportation (air, land, and sea), travel, and accommodation enterprises ranging from five-star hotels to small guesthouses.
Equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge, graduates may also use their entrepreneurial skills to establish their own businesses.
The duration of study in the Department of Tourism Management is four years. The preparatory program is not compulsory in our faculty; however, an optional one-year preparatory program is available for those who wish to improve their foreign-language proficiency. Students who successfully pass the proficiency exam at the end of the program are directly admitted to the first year. The preparatory year is not included in the four-year education period.
The aim of the preparatory program is to teach the basic rules of the target language, enhance oral and written comprehension and expression, expand vocabulary, develop reading and understanding skills, provide the ability to follow publications in various fields, and enable effective communication in academic and social life. The Department of Tourism Management combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In order to apply what they have learned in real-life settings, students are required to complete a workplace internship in areas related to their profession.
The total duration of the internship for students of the Department of Tourism Management is ninety (90) days.
